No more mercury!
After two years of hard work
and significant public outcry, we are on the verge of reducing mercury
pollution from coal-fired power plants by 90 percent. Mercury
pollution is posing a serious health threat and is destroying our
ability to enjoy Wisconsin’s lakes and rivers. The problem is so
widespread that the Department of Natural Resources has warned against
consuming too much fish from anywhere in the state. Fortunately, we can
reduce mercury emissions from power plants drastically and quickly.
“We
know we have a problem with mercury in our lakes, and we know what we
need to do to solve it,” said Dan Kohler of Wisconsin Environment.
Wisconsin Environment is advocating a policy that would reduce mercury
emissions 90 percent by 2012. Help keep mercury out of our waterways and fish. Click here to send an e-mail to the National Resources Board and let them know that you support a strong mercury standard.
