Wisconsin Environment Endorses Steven Kagen for Re-election to U.S. House of Representatives

(Madison – WI) Wisconsin Environment announced today its endorsement of Steve Kagen for re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives, citing his consistent support of clean, homegrown energy and protections of the Great Lakes.

“By returning Steve Kagen to Congress we know we will have a leader who represents Wisconsin’s proud conservation tradition, and someone who will pursue a clean energy economy for Wisconsin and our nation,” said Dan Kohler, Wisconsin Environment Director.

Representative Kagen has served Wisconsin’s 8th Congressional district for 2 years, and in that time, he has shown tremendous dedication to the environment, earning a perfect record on Wisconsin Environment’s Congressional scorecard.

In his first term, Representative Kagen voted to expand renewable energy and energy efficiency measures and to extend clean energy incentives by cutting subsidies to big oil.  He is committed to protecting Wisconsin’s waterways and the Great Lakes from aquatic invasive species and toxic pollutants such as PCBs.

Kagen’s opponent, John Gard, does not share Kagen’s strong environmental record.  As a state Legislator, Gard was on the wrong side of almost every environmental issue, including waterway protections, land conservation and mercury pollution, earning him a conservation scorecard of 6%.

“The consistency of Kagen’s environmental record inspires confidence that he will continue to support legislation that protects our environment while creating jobs through a clean energy economy,” concluded Kohler.

Wisconsin Environment proudly supports Representative Steve Kagen for re-election to the U.S. House.  Wisconsin Environment is committed to working with our allies to mount an aggressive effort to secure a victory for Steve Kagen including grassroots outreach to our members and the public.

Wisconsin Environment has prepared a report on the environmental records of members of Congress, which is available at http://www.wisconsinenvironment.org/scorecard.
