What's New
On March 20, Rep. Henry Waxman (Calif.) introduced strong, comprehensive legislation to fight global warming. The bill, called the Safe Climate Act, would limit global warming pollution to levels that current science says are needed to prevent the worst effects of global warming. A total of 128 House members from districts across the country have already agreed to cosponsor the bill, including Wisconsin Reps. Tammy Baldwin, Gwen Moore and Ron Kind.
How You Can Help
Call your representative urging him or her to back proposals that will reduce global warming pollution nationwide to levels necessary to prevent the worst impacts of global warming.
Brief Summary
More and more Americans are becoming concerned about global warming. As power plants and cars spew out more global warming pollution, we will see rising sea levels along the Eastern seaboard, more intense storms in the Gulf, droughts in the West, and more dangerous heat waves across the country.
The good news is that if we act now and act decisively we can stop global warming and protect our children and future generations.
We have seen little or no progress on global warming solutions at the federal level, but now there are signs that the tide is beginning to turn in Washington, D.C. Some of that can be attributed to the tremendous progress that has been made in state capitols to advance global warming solutions.
Wisconsin Environment has worked with our state allies and partners to build support for the Safe Climate Act among Wisconsin’s Congressional delegation. Already, Reps. Tammy Baldwin, Ron Kind, and Gwen Moore have signed on to co-sponsor The Safe Climate Act.
In addition, Wisconsin Environment is calling on Gov. Doyle to join other states in establishing a plan to address global warming in Wisconsin, and Wisconsin Environment is working with Rep. Spencer Black and Sen. Mark Miller to pass The Wisconsin Safe Climate Act, a Wisconsin bill that provides a comprehensive, science-based plan for Wisconsin to address global warming.
