With our current economic challenges, one bright spot is the potential to repower Wisconsin and revitalize our economy with clean energy.
Last week at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, a group of organizations, businesses and elected officials held a town hall meeting to discuss how northeast Wisconsin can lead the way, harnessing power from the wind, sun and fuels from our farms, freeing us from foreign sources of energy, addressing global warming and creating new jobs in all sectors of our economy, including many jobs that can never be outsourced.
It seems imperative that as Wisconsin citizens, we might take the initiative by supporting actions that would have a positive impact not only on our economy, but that also would benefit my generation and future generations. It's important to work together to continue to expand and develop while paving a way to free ourselves from dirty coal and foreign oil.
The time seems ripe for us to work together to create a strong, clean energy economy here. Wisconsin has always been a nationwide model not only for its innovative and hard-working people, but also residents who have believed in the development of new sources to improve paths to success and fulfillment.
I want to thank Oshkosh Mayor Frank Tower, state Reps. Gordon Hintz and Richard Spanbauer, and Sen. Randy Hopper for attending the event and addressing this important issue. I would like to see the Legislature adopt a plan get Wisconsin on a path to a strong, clean energy economy.
