Protect our lakes from algae
Sign our petition supporting legislation to ban phosphorus in fertilizers for lawns and golf courses.
Petition Text
Dear Legislator,
Wisconsin’s lakes are a treasure. Unfortunately, chemicals in lawn fertilizer—particularly phosphorous—have been polluting our lakes, causing massive algae blooms that affect water quality, harm wildlife and prevent people from enjoying activities like fishing and boating.
We should protect Wisconsin’s lakes for future generations.
Please support passage of LRB
09/06761, a bi-partisan bill that will restrict phosphorous in lawn fertilizer to protect all of Wisconsin’s lakes.
Sincerely,
Clean Water
Protecting the Great Lakes
In May, 2008, after months of campaigning, and thousands of
citizens voicing their loud and consistent support, the Legislature approved
the Great Lakes Compact with a nearly unanimous vote. Then, on May 27th,
Wisconsin Environment Director, Dan Kohler, joined Gov. Doyle on the shore
of Lake Michigan as he signed the bill into law. Read more.
