Protecting the Great Lakes

Dear Governor Jim Doyle,

Wisconsin's lakes are among the most beautiful in the United States. But this summer was a stark reminder that we need to do more to protect them. With all of the algae blooms and other dangerous pollutants, we couldn't enjoy some of our best beaches and favorite fishing spots.

As you know, agricultural runoff pollution from manure, pesticides and fertilizers is the biggest source of the problem. Factory farms will only make the problem worse. The Department of Natural Resources should not approve the expansion of Rosendale Dairy or other factory farms that threaten our waterways and public health.
